Agua Meter is a device that is attached to your shower head and calculates how much water you are using in the shower. It collects all your data per shower, showers in day, week, or month and are stored in a downloaded app. With this app, you can set up usernames for each member of your household, and find out how much water each person is using.
The purpose of Agua Meter is to allow consumers to be more conscious of the water usage. A couple weeks ago in class we were brainstorming idea on how to conserve water. One thing that I thought about when I went home is I’m not sure how much water I’m using. There are statistics online about how much water the average person consumes, but how much do I personally use. I believe the area that would be the easiest to cut down on is taking a shorter shower, but at the end of the day I don’t know how much water I use per shower. I could time myself and vow to cut my time in half, but that’s just a guess. If I had a way to visually see what footprint I leave behind, it would be more attainable to cut down on my consumption. I would have a real number to go off, and from there adjust my lifestyle based on the number of gallons I consume.
The current water crisis is a huge wakeup call; it has been especially dry the last five years and the need for water conservation is dire. The third largest use of water in a home is showers, the average length of a shower is 8.2 minutes long and uses 17.2 gallons of water. The average household spends $500 a year on their sewer and water bills. Agua Meter is a great business opportunity, to cash in on those who want to be environmentally conscious.
Where’s Bobby? is a magnetic hair dish that is used to store women’s bobby pins. These are some of the most crucial hair accessories in a women’s arsenal. However, you would think these tiny metal pins have legs, because they are mysteriously disappearing from me all the time. Where’s Bobby secures your mischievously wandering pins, so that the next time you need them they will always be there. Throughout the course of a year I must buy 3 packs of bobby pins a year, but somehow I’m digging in the bottom my bag trying to find just one. The hair dish will be dainty and cute so it can be displayed on your vanity but with a secure lid in case you need to take Bobby on the road.
In the United States 144 million dollar are spent on hair accesories in supermarkets and 675 million through online, prestige, and drugstore sales. Every year worldwide approximately 1.73 billion bobby pins are lost. Where’s Bobby could be very useful to women around the world.
Buff Buddy is an interactive app designed to connect individuals with other individuals within your area to form workout or running groups, or share you’re at home gym. The app will prompt each user to fill out a questionnaire, and based off your answer will connect you with individuals in your community with your same goals, preferred workout methods, or can be narrowed to a specific gender or age range. Buff Buddy allows users to connect with individuals who share the same interest as you, that you may not otherwise meet through your personal social circle.
I am by nature a shyer person, and heading to the gym to work out or do cardio is more of an uncomfortable experience. I prefer to workout form home and use all my own equipment. Also, being a germaphobe, laying in sweaty equipment that 100 other people have used before me is not appealing. However, why should I miss out from having a workout partner because of my location preference. Having a group or a partner can improve the atmosphere, they hold you accountable, and offer great motivation to be persistent.
In the United States the average cost of a gym membership is $58 a month, with over 54 million memberships held across 35,000 fitness centers. Out of those memberships 67% of them go used every year. Memberships go unused when members cannot stick to the commitment and when there are no human interactions. Individuals who work alone are less likely to stick to a routine than those in a workout group or with a personal trainer. Buff Buddy is a great business opportunity because it will connect individuals with workout groups, without having to pay high membership fees, but still ensuring that you can gain accountability to make your lifestyle stick.
Your Home Nose is a plug-in sensor that detects foul odors that are disrupting your home. It would be similar to a plug-in carbon monoxide detector that indicates when dangerous gases are present. However, Your Home Nose will detect when your house has reached a certain level of pet odor, that you have gone immune too. It would also work in conjunction as an oil diffuser to help rid your home of the pet odor. Instead of masking the smells with air fresheners, using natural oils such as lemon grass and tea tree oil to kill bacteria and fungal as well as eliminate odors.
Recently I was at the home of some family friends and once I entered, I was immediately stunned at the strong mixture of wet dog and cats. It was so pungent and strong, I had no clue how they were functioning. I thought at some point you would have to get used to the smell that you don’t even notice it anymore. As a guest it would be a bit awkward to bring up the fact that their house smells like a small zoo. If no one says anything about your home, then you’ll never know there’s something to fix.
In the United States 79.9 million households own a pet and 62% of household own more than one pet. In 2015, $60.28 billion dollars were spent on pets in the United States and specifically $14.28 billion dollars were spent on supplies for pets. Your Home Nose would be a great business opportunity because people love their pets and having a product that allows you to enjoy and love your pet, while still having a clean and fresh smelling home for yourself and your guest, is a win-win.
